A Change to Bitless Bridles
I really enjoyed “Have You Noticed?” a recent Horse & Rider column on the accelerating pace of change (Just Between Us, August ’09). But what Juli Thorson didn’t mention was how hard change comes in the riding world.

One piece of equipment I use that meets a lot of resistance is the Bitless Bridle (bitlessbridle.com). My late Arabian gelding, Quincee, hated and fought the bit every time we’d go out riding. It was a struggle for him (as well as for me) to keep his mind on the job at hand, as he played constantly with the bit. I saw an ad for the true Bitless Bridle with a free trial period. Tried it. Loved it. Never looked back! Quincee responded as if to say, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

However, many of the longtime horse owners I’ve relayed this story to have not shown Quincee’s enthusiasm.

I’m now looking at a replacement for Quincee. The current owner’s only negative comment was that the mare I’m considering always has a sore mouth from her bit. Her life is about to change in a big way!

Don’t be afraid to try something new. You might be surprised!

Recycled Ribbons...being going on forever (tossing ribbons in garbage cans). If the exhibitor doesn't want them then save them for a 4H group and a "Crazy Ribbon Show". I've NEVER understood the mentality; others work so very hard for a ribbon and really treasure them, no matter the color, and then there are those exhibitors who think so little of ribbon color other than blue that they make a beeline for the garbage can. Some screwed thinking here. I wonder if parents ever consider what this really represents? And it makes me wonder why the parents continue to fork over very large sums of money for boarding, training, and coaching only to have it end up in "the dirt". Maybe these are the very same exhibitors throwing show headstalls and saddles on the asphalt.
