June 20, 2011 — As fireworks kicked off the sixth event of the Seminole Hard Rock Xtreme Bulls Tour presented by B&W Trailer Hitches June 16, the night’s big showdown was supposed to be between current world standings leader Shane Proctor and three-time World Champion J.W. Harris.
Instead, Harris found himself in a nail-biting shoot-out with newcomer Trevor Kastner and fellow five-time NFR qualifier Steve Woolsey, who had taken the top two spots in the first round.
Kastner bucked off in the short go, and Harris roared back from his sixth-place first-round finish to put a 92-point ride on Don Kish’s bull Big Dreams to win the round and the two-head average. Harris’ 175 points earned him the Hard Rock guitar and trophy buckle – by half a point – over Woolsey. Harris added $10,802 to his season total and is in great shape halfway through the season to claim his fourth straight gold buckle.
Harris’ big night moved him to within $4,938 of Proctor’s lead in the world standings.
Reno offered a $46,765 purse and fielded the top 40 bull riders in the world as part of the Seminole Hard Rock Xtreme Bulls Tour, which has three remaining events including its Tour Finale in Ellensburg, Wash., Sept. 3.
The event kicked off the 92nd Reno Rodeo, which offers more than $2.1 million in prize money and features rodeo performances June 17-25. The “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” also features 100 of the best team ropers in the world competing at the $680,000 Bob Feist Invitational team roping on June 20 and other team roping and barrel racing competitions.
Action from the Reno Xtreme Bulls event will air at 7 p.m. (ET) July 3 on Great American Country (GAC).
