Dog Finds Stranded Pony Foal In North Carolina

A barking dog alerted visitors at Cape Lookout National Seashore in Harkers Island, near Morehead City, N.C., to a tiny foal trapped in mud at a water hole.

The three-day-old foal was rescued by the park’s wildlife biologists. Although he was basically unharmed, he was too weak to stand and nurse, so he could not be returned to his wild-pony harem. The pony was removed by the park’s wildlife biologists and is now being bottle fed by the Foundation for Shackleford Horses, Inc. When the foal is old enough, he will be available for adoption.
