The Bit Gallery – Mullen-Mouthed Snaffle

The Mullen mouth snaffle has an un-jointed mouthpiece. It is shaped in a very gentle curve and is designed to rest on the bars of the mouth and be cushioned by the tongue.

This is considered by many riders to be a very gentle bit, but in fact, the constant pressure of the bit on the tongue may be more irritating to the horse than a jointed bit.
