Ivermectin Dewormers Swap Names
Changes in names and packaging for ivermectin dewormers may cause confusion to consumers over the next couple of months. Farnam has been selling the Zimecterin brand of the dewormer for the past 15 years, but that brand will now be sold by Merial, which had been manufacturing the ivermectin for Farnam Companies.
Farnam will now sell its own dewormer, with the same active ingredient of 1.86 percent ivermectin, under the name of IverCare. The confusion will come while store shelves still have old supplies of the Farnam Zimecterin. In addition, the familiar Farnam box will remain the same but with the new name of IverCare, while Merial will have new packaging for the familiar name of Zimecterin, and they could all be on the shelves at the same time.
Farnam is also introducing a multi-dose syringe under the brand name of Horse Health Equine Ivermectin, which can treat up to three 1,250-pound horses. This will be useful to consumers with multiple horses or those with large horses that require a bigger dose.
The economical Horse Health Equine Ivermectin is renamed from the former Equimectrin, as that name will also be retained by Merial.
Farnam also has renamed their deworming system products to Rotation 1 (ivermectin) and Rotation 2 (pyrantel pamoate).

Horses On TV
A two-hour block of horse programs is being offered on RFD-TV weeknights at 4 p.m. ET, with repeats at 10 p.m. and on weekends. The schedule includes training and event programs, with features on dressage, western, rodeo and major breeds.
RFD-TV is available nationwide on the DISH and DIRECTV satellite systems as part of the basic programming packages. On DISH, it’s found on channel 9409; on DIRECTV, the channel is 379. Barn Fire Verdict
A jury found Stephen Fennell, 23, guilty on March 20 of killing 19 horses in a fire at the Grosse Pointe (MI) Hunt Club on July 8, 2001. Fennell had been drinking and setting off firecrackers at a home across from the hunt club, and he then tossed a firecracker into the barn, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Fennell, however, was not found guilty of another charge of arson. Assistant Prosecutor Kenneth Simon said the jury apparently didn’t think he intended to burn down the barn but did intend to harm the horses, even if he only wanted to scare them. He faces up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Fennell may also have to pay costs of the prosecution and any veterinary care for the horses resulting from the barn fire. He is also being sued by the club and its insurance carrier for $1.25 million, as are the neighbors where the fireworks were set off and a guard service.
