FDA Announces Equine Drug Label Warnings

If you have a bottle of phenylbutazone in the barn and notice it is marked for intrauterine use, don’t panic. Bute of the brand name Butler Butaject, Lot 081144, Exp. 06/10, and Lot 081342, Exp. 08/10, is mislabeled and has been recalled by the manufacturer. On another area of the label, it is correctly labeled for intravenous use only. There is nothing wrong with the drug itself, just the label, so if you have actually used the product already there is no reason for concern. There were 8,388 100 mL bottles in circulation nationwide.
