Olympic Medalist Karen Stives Donates to U.S. Eventing

Best know for her 1984 Olympic ride on Ben Arthur, Stives donated $1 million.

Three-day event 1984 Olympic silver- and gold-medalist Karen Stives donated $1 million to the USEF Foundation, creating the Karen E. Stives Endowment Fund for High Performance Eventing. 

Stives rode her mother’s notoriously talented but difficult gray gelding Ben Arthur to win her Olympic medals. A multiple USCTA Rider of the Year, Stives also competed her Thoroughbred The Saint on several world teams. Retired from competition, Stives remains active in the sport, serving as an USEF judge and on selection committees.

The money will fund an annual grant to for an Eventing High Performance activity that will have a direct impact on the United States ability to win medals at CCIO competitions.
