Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI), makers of Prascend® (pergolide mesylate), and EquiManagement magazine announce Bethany Berarov, Carlton, Michigan, has been named the first Champion of the Cause Award winner. Berarov was nominated by James A. Romine, DVM, owner of Saline Veterinary Service in Saline, Michigan.
Berarov will receive an expense-paid trip to the 2015 American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Assistants (AAEVT)/American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, a one-year membership to the AAEVT and a plaque commemorating her win.
The Champions of the Cause Award program was launched in mid-2015. BIVI, teamed up with EquiManagement and the AAEVT to recognize hard-working and often-unheralded equine veterinary technicians and assistants and their importance to the well-being of horses.
“Veterinary technicians and assistants are often the first ones seeing some of the more subtle signs of disease,” said Dr. John Tuttle, senior associate director for Equine Professional Services for BIVI. “We want to reward those veterinary technicians and assistants, like Bethany, who are innovative in their thinking regarding equine health.”
Nominations re-opened on July 1, 2015. Veterinarians can nominate technicians/assistants for the Champion of The Cause Award thru September 2, 2015. Visit www.EquiManagement.com/ChampionsoftheCause for more information.
About the Winner
Berarov, 33, doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t love animals, especially horses. She quickly determined hands-on animal care was her forte. Berarov is currently a veterinary assistant and practice manager for Saline Veterinary Service.
Romine said he nominated Berarov because she is an invaluable asset, both in the clinic and on the road. He said because of her ability and experience with horses, many client horses respond better to her than they do their owners. Romine added that Berarov also “pushes me to stay current.”
Berarov said she is excited to attend the AAEP/AAEVT Convention, and that her number-one interest is ultrasound, followed by endoscopy and cardiology.
When asked how it feels to be the first Champions of the Cause Award winner, she replied, “I’m beyond honored to be the first award winner.”
