Samantha Smith is going to the WEG after moving up from third to first in the last qualifying competition. However, the rough road for her was not over, as she broke her foot in a demonstration shortly after the trials.
“If I can just come back and do well right after being in a cast, that would be great,” Smith says. “I am very excited. I have never been able to go.”
In 2000, she was selected for the World Championships as an alternate. She has been vaulting for 10 years.
Throughout the selection trials, Smith borrowed horses and is borrowing Erik Martonovich’s Doc this time around. She made it through the selection trials without a coach.
