Saturday Update on Brentina's Condition

Dressage Olympian Debbie McDonald's mare, Brentina, is in good spirits and making good progress after her colic surgery February 10.

February 14, 2009 — When I saw the e-mail from Debbie McDonald with the words: “Mama is doing fantastic!” I was elated.

Like so many of you, I have been worrying about Brentina and praying for her since she underwent surgery February 10. She’s still at the veterinary hospital, where she will remain until Feb. 23, but she certainly seems to have turned a corner.

When Debbie and Brentina’s devoted groom, Ruben Palomera visited, Mama was back in form.

“Ruben and I took her out for a walk today; she was so excited to have us there,” Debbie enthused.

“We had rain all day, and when we went to take her out, there was bright sunshine for about 15 minutes.”

That sounds like a sign from above to me.

“She mostly wanted to groom us, which made me so happy because that meant she was feeling more like herself,” Debbie reported.

She has been overwhelmed with the response from Brentina’s fans.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for all your prayers, I really believe that they have been heard and hopefully answered.”
