In eventing, Great Britain’s William Fox-Pitt squeaked through at the 11th hour to clinch the USA’s Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, a four-star FEI-sanctioned competition, in late April. William is currently at the top of the leaderboard of the HSBC FEI Classic Series. His Rolex win was his 11th lifetime four-star victory. How badly would William love to win the gold medal at home in London this summer? You know the answer to that question! But he’ll be head-to-head with the world’s best, including the masterful New Zealand eventers, the 2008 gold medalists from Germany, the super-adept French, the outrageous Aussies (hopefully included 2008 silver medalist Shane Rose), a solid and determined Team USA, and his own British compatriots who will also be riding for the gold. In eventing, anything can happen–and probably will. Keep an eye on Canada, coached by USA Olympic gold medalist David O’Connor, as well as top riders from Belgium, Sweden, Italy, and several other nations.
