Book Review: Angel & Evie: Catching a Unicorn (for readers 3-8 years)

In this picture book for beginning readers, a feisty little girl named Evie searches for a unicorn of her very own–a pretty white mare with pink mane and tail. In the magical land of Einhorn, just such a unicorn dreams of finding a little girl of her very own–one with gentle hands, a cheerful voice and plain brown hair, like Evie. Aided by fairies, Angel begins her search.

Girls three to eight years old will enjoy the intricately illustrated pages of this whimsical tale, especially the fairies that can be spotted swinging, perching on mushrooms, talking to fish, teaching young birds to fly, and trying to get tangles out of Angel’s mane!

About the Author

As a young rider, EB “Liz” Hendrix represented Region 8 in the North American Young Rider Championships three years in a row. At one point she was long-listed for the U.S. Equestrian Team. In 2008 she was included on the USDF Developing Rider List and qualified for the Festival of Champions National Intermediare Championships. She has served as chef d’equipe for the Region 7 Young Rider team at the NAJRYR Championships. Liz earned her USDF gold medal and is now a USDF 4th Level certified instructor and horse trainer living in Livermore, CA.

A few years ago, the course of her life changed when she developed facial neuralgia, which made it painful to be outside for extended periods. Unable to continue a full-time career with horses, she fell back on her lifelong love of art and began sketching and writing. Angel & Evie began as a Christmas gift for her family and has turned into the first in a series of picture books for young readers.

Angel & Evie: Catching a Unicorn, a 36-page 8.5- by 11-inch book, is available for $19.99 (plus shipping) from AngelandEvie.com.
